BLDE University became a deemed university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Shri B. M. Patil Medical
College Hospital & Research Centre in Bijapur, the University’s only college, started in 1986 by the BLDE Association (Bijapur Liberal Development Education Association).
The University has built the needed facilities for medical education. It includes major departments, a central library, and residential quarters on a large campus. There are separate hostels for boys, girls, NRI students, and PG students
.The library offers a wide range of books, reference works, and journal back volumes for students and faculty, along with many e-books and e-journals. It provides document delivery, a book bank for students, open access for faculty and students, broadband internet, bibliography, and reprographic services.
Additionally, the University has modern labs for teaching and research. The University also has selected teaching staff to deliver high-quality education.
